The Minack Theatre

One of the undisputed jewels of Cornwall, The Minack Theatre in Porthcurno is one of the most stunning places in the world to watch theatre. In an open-air venue carved into the cliff and overlooking the sea, enjoy a play and some of the best views in the UK.

The Minack Theatre was created by Rowena Cade and her gardener in 1932. After watching a local production of Midsummer Night’s dream in a nearby field, she resolved to have the next production in her garden overlooking the sea. They worked each year to build upon the theatre, with all of the spectacular carvings done be Rowena herself with just a rusty screwdriver.

The views stretch out from Porthcurno Bay, over to Lizard Point on the horizon. You can also book tickets to visit the gardens during the day, or for a guided tour to learn more about its history. With such an vast expanse of coast, you’re bound to spot some wildlife. Last night, we watched gannets dive into the water during the show and last time we saw seals bobbing in the waves enjoying the music! Find out more of what they have on offer and plan your trip here.
